I’ve meaning to post this Authentic Brazilian Açaí Bowl recipe a long time ago. As I was growing up in Brazil this was one of the energy foods I would eat the most often after a long surf session to recoup my energy.
In Brazil açaí bowls are made by puréeing together pure frozen açaí pulp from Amazon and bananas, and then topping it with granola and fresh berries.
Açaí is now becoming more and more popular in many countries and are sold in most supermarkets, even in large stores like Costco. The best brand in my opinion is by Tambor and you can buy it in packages containing 4 frozen bars of 100g each.
Two different packages are available, one sweetened with organic cane juice and one with just 100% pure organic açaí pulp. They are both delicious, but I prefer the traditional package containing no sugar. In my opinion the bananas, berries and granola add just the right amount of sweetness to the açaí pulp.
For this recipe I used 2 packs of the traditional, no sugar added package (green package in the picture below) and this recipe serves 2 people.
What is Açaí?
Chances are, you’ve already heard about this little purple berry that is quickly making a name for itself. Açaí (pronounced ah-sah-EE) is a highly nutritious palm berry that grows on a tall, thin palm in the Amazon flood plains. Açaí palms grow natively along the riverbanks of the rainforest where the humidity and mineral content of the earth make for perfect growing conditions. The acai palm can reach heights of up to 60 feet tall. High in the canopy of its pristine environment, the Açaí palm produces clusters of dark purple berries. Although similar in look and size of a blueberry, the Açaí berry is 90% seed with only a thin oily skin. This purple skin of the berry possesses tremendous health properties and has been used by Amazon natives for centuries. Source: Tambor Açaí
